A very pleasant surprise for me was the discovery of the superb Dowani 3 Tempi Play Along CDs ... These CDs present a “kinder, gentler“ rehearsal system for those attacking a composition for the first time. Each CD begins with a tuning note, followed by a full concert performance, all performed by Manfredo Zimmermann on recorder. These are very pleasing performances and include some very interesting, sometimes very florid, ornamentation. Harpsichord realizations, played by Alexander Puliaev, are quite nice, featuring graceful, rolling chords in the slow movements, lead-in scalar passages at repeats, and pleasing ornamentation. Following the concert performance, each selection is then presented in thress gradually increasing tempi... |
